Respecting Indigenous Culture and Heritage:
A Cornerstone of Healing
At the root of healing for Indigenous People and communities, we must honour culture and heritage. I acknowledge the challenges faced by Indigenous Peoples in the past and present. My goal is to create a space that respects their cultural identity and healing pathways, as uniquely expressed within the many nations, languages, and ceremonies of First Nations, Metis, and Inuit.
Talking circles, a traditional practice in many Indigenous cultures, are woven into our therapeutic approach. These circles provide a safe and sacred space for sharing stories, fostering connection, and promoting collective healing. By embracing this practice, we empower individuals to draw strength from their community and ancestral wisdom.
I am committed to supporting the resurgence of strong nations where Indigenous peoples feel empowered to heal from historical trauma. I actively work to dismantle systemic barriers and foster an environment of trust, understanding, and cultural safety.
I believe in a collaborative approach to capacity-building. I work alongside you, drawing on your strengths and resilience, to navigate life’s complexities and develop effective coping strategies. My aim is to empower you to reclaim your well-being and build a brighter future for yourself and your community.
By honoring Indigenous culture, fostering safe spaces, and embracing traditional practices, I strive to create a therapeutic environment that is truly transformative. I believe that through respect, understanding, and collaboration, I can support the healing and growth of Indigenous individuals, families, and communities.
A Journey of Understanding and Connection

Sharing Circles: A Space for Healing
Sharing circles are a traditional Indigenous practice that promotes healing, community building, and cultural revitalization. I offer Sharing Circles as a powerful complement to individual therapy.
- Safe and Supportive Environment: Sharing Circles provide a confidential space where you can share your experiences, thoughts, and feelings without fear of judgment.
- Collective Wisdom: By listening to and learning from others, you can gain new perspectives, strengthen your sense of belonging, and find support on your healing journey.
- Cultural Connection: Sharing Circles honour Indigenous traditions and provide opportunities to reclaim and celebrate your cultural identity.
- Healing and Growth: Through the power of shared stories and collective support, Sharing Circles foster healing, empowerment, and personal growth.
Addressing Unique Challenges
Indigenous peoples face unique challenges stemming from historical and ongoing trauma from colonization. These experiences can have a profound impact on mental, emotional, and physical well-being. I’m trained to understand and address these challenges with sensitivity and respect.
- Intergenerational Trauma: The effects of trauma can be passed down through generations, affecting individuals, families, and communities. I work to help you understand and heal from the impact of intergenerational trauma.
- Loss of Culture and Identity: Colonization and assimilation policies have disrupted Indigenous cultures and identities. I support you in reconnecting with your heritage and celebrating your cultural traditions.
- Systemic Discrimination: Indigenous peoples continue to face discrimination and inequality in many areas of life. We provide a safe space to process these experiences and develop coping strategies.
- Mental Health Concerns: Trauma and ongoing stressors can contribute to mental health challenges such as anxiety, depression, and PTSD. We offer evidence-based therapies to help you manage these concerns and improve your quality of life.
Our Approach to Counselling Indigenous Peoples:
I use a combination of culturally relevant and evidence-based approaches to support your healing journey. I strive to create a collaborative and empowering therapeutic relationship where you feel heard, understood, and respected.
- Trauma-Informed Care: I understand that trauma can affect every aspect of your life. I use gentle and compassionate techniques to help you process traumatic experiences and develop healthy coping mechanisms.
- Cultural Integration: I honour the wisdom and healing practices of Indigenous cultures. I encourage you to incorporate traditional practices into your healing journey, such as storytelling, drumming, and connection to the land.
- Strength-Based Approach: I focus on your strengths, resilience, and cultural resources. I help you identify and build on your existing coping skills and connect with your inner wisdom.
- Holistic Healing: I recognize that healing involves addressing the whole person – mind, body, spirit, and emotions. I offer a variety of therapeutic modalities to support your holistic well-being.
- Building Community: Sharing Circles create a sense of community and connection, fostering a network of support and understanding.
- Cultural Revitalization: By participating in Sharing Circles, you can reconnect with your cultural traditions, learn from Elders and Knowledge Keepers, and celebrate your Indigenous heritage.
- Empowerment: Sharing Circles provide a platform for your voice to be heard and your experiences to be validated. This can lead to increased self-esteem, confidence, and empowerment.
- Healing: The act of sharing your story and listening to others can be a powerful catalyst for healing. Sharing Circles offer a space to release emotional burdens, find solace in shared experiences, and cultivate hope for the future.
